Havana, Cuba - Juan Formell and Los Van Van, the most popular Cuban orchestra (band), has been nominated in five different categories in the Cubadisco 2009 International Fair, held here from the 16 and until the 24 of May.
The record, Aqui el Que Baila Gana, considered the best CD of that group in their history, was classified in the categories Testimony, Audio Visual concert, CD – DVD, Live Recording and DVD Design, which places it as the most nominated work in this edition.
The record includes the life concert given by the Van Van in 2006 in the Karl Marx theatre in Havana , as well as a documentary of the tour made by that group all over the country as well as their successful presentation in the stages of the island.
In the category Testimony, the record competes against the CD Amigos, by Raul Paz, recorded by Bis Music and in Audio Visual concert is among records, such as Señales, made by the brothers M and X Alfonso, record by EGREM.
It is also worth mentioning Rapsodia by Marcos Madrigaland Gloria Arguelles from the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry, about a theme by Paganini, Clasicos de Cuba, with Cesar Lopez and Habana Ensemble, accompanied by the Havana Camera Orchestra.
In the category CD – DVD, the compact of Van Van must compete with titles such as El cantar del caballero y su destino, by Jose Mari Vitier and recorded by Producciones Colibrí and with Aguas revisitadas, a record with pieces by Amaury Perez, also from Producciones Colibrí, among many others.
In Live Recordings, Van Van is competing with Bembedoble, by Bobby Carcasés, recorded by Producciones Colibrí and Amigos by Raúl Paz with Mateo Picornelli, by Bis Music Record Company.
