White Stripe plans wedding for Music City

The Detroit News has reported that drummer Meg White of The White Stripes will marry Jackson Smith on May 22 in Nashville.

Jackson is the son of rock poet Patti Smith and MC5 guitarist Fred "Sonic" Smith, and he plays guitar in Detroit rock band Back In Spades.

Nashville was also (one of the cities) where Detroit-reared Kid Rock married Pamela Anderson, You'd think that a marriage might be stronger when it is affirmed in multiple towns, but... not so much.

No truth to rumors that Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, members of Grand Funk Railroador former Detroit Lions great Barry Sanders are planning Nashville nuptials.
O'Connell caught naked with friends

From music writer Peter Cooper

Well, sort of. More like Maura O'Connell recorded naked with friends including Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Tim O'Brien, Darrell Scott and Jerry Douglas. Only, everyone kept their clothes on.

For her Naked With Friends album, Maura decided to record a cappella: Just singing, no instruments.

"I've gathered the consciousness that singing should be just fine, that it is a viable talent on its own," she said.

On May 9, a fully clothed Maura will appear at the Tennessee Alliance For Progress' Long Haul Awards, slated for 7 p.m. at St. Anne's Episcopal Church (409 Woodland St. in East Nashville). The www.tennesseeallianceforprogress.com Web site lists her as an "Irish diva," but we're pleased to point out for the record that the Irish-born Maura is a full-fledged, naturalized, ballot-casting American who lives in Middle Tennessee.

Naked With Friends' release date is June 16. The album features songs by Janis Ian, Darrell Scott and others.

Oh, and for those who thought to themselves, "How come Dobro master Jerry Douglas is on an a cappella album?": Turns out Jerry sings beautifully on an Irish-language song called "Mo Sheamuseen."
