Aerosmith will play some of the shows solo, including an August 5th gig at the annual Bike Week rally in Sturgis, South Dakota.
The tour is sponsored by Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, which came out last summer and was the first installment in the popular video game franchise to be focused on one particular act.
Although Aerosmith has begun work on a new studio album, progress on it ws halted due to health issues and the upcoming tour. The group plans to resume work on the new disc after the summer trek is finished.
ZZ Top has also been at work on a new record, due out later this year.

Aerosmith 2009 tour dates unveiled
Aerosmith has announced the dates and cities for its upcoming tour with ZZ Top, with venues in most of the markets to be announced later. According to the band's publicist, the jaunt will kick off on June 10th in St. Louis, with ZZ Top joining the bill on the 16th in Aerosmith's hometown of Boston. A total of around 30 stops are planned, with the entire road trip extending into mid-September. Tickets go on sale in selected markets beginning this Friday (April 17th).
