Capeverdean songstress Carmen Souza will perform at Chicago Cultural Center on Monday, April 27, 7 pm at Preston Bradley Hall. Souza (27) was born in Lisbon,
Portugal, but was always surrounded by the tradition, music and costumes of Cape Verde. Souza has a sweet and versatile smooth voice that fits well in these mellifluous, airy tunes which bear a just a hint of the sodade of Cape Verde – the longing that comes from exile, and a light percussive touch and brightness that recalls the music of those other lusophone countries, Brazil and Guinea-Bissau.
